Who are GMI

GMI is a partnership between three charities: METRO Charity, Positive East and Spectra. Collectively, we combine high quality HIV prevention and support services, with a pan London reach, delivered through a shared skill set and staff and volunteer base, which is firmly anchored in diverse communities.

We provide pan-London community-based sexual health services for diverse groups such as Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) and Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities. Our services include:

  • HIV testing
  • STI screening
  • Condom and lube distribution
  • Sexual health training and awareness
  • Community-based sexual health data collection

What are our future plans?

Our focus for the near future will be:

  • Advocacy and communication: maintain and develop GMI’s identity
  • Community Health programmes: strengthen and expand our work with diverse communities
  • Partnership development: reinforce our infrastructure and capacity
  • Monitoring and evaluation and research: develop and extend our research agenda.

What have we achieved?

Our HIV testing interventions in a range of diverse settings (since 2013) have provided 5700 HIV tests. Our counselling and mentoring services delivered between 2008-2014 provided over 6000 sessions to more than 900 individuals.

GMI Partnership has delivered services directly to clients under several contracts including:

  • London HIV Prevention Programme (LHPP) – Do It London
  • HIV Prevention England (HPE)
  • Public Health England (PHE) – Innovation Fund
  • Caring with Confidence (CwC)
  • Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) to undertake outreach in Camden and Islington
  • Department of Health’s national HIV testing pilots
  • Elton John Aids Foundation - (EJAF)
  • Fast Track Cities

Our core staff work seamlessly across the three agencies, maintaining a strong GMI Partnership identity and open, collaborative approach to service design and delivery. Core staff roles are in direct client delivery, outreach management, research and performance management, data management, contract liaison, volunteer co-ordination and social media management.

Our ongoing outreach to MSM in London has delivered 4,400 sessions in 150 venues, reaching over 500,000 individuals.

GMI Partner Organisations

Each partner agency brought distinct strengths to the GMI Partnership. These include their experiences of long-established community work, connections with communities, stakeholders and health and social care professionals and their local knowledge in the areas of London in which they were established.
