Volunteers

As an outreach and testing volunteer, you'll be involved in helping in dealing with issues raised, providing credible sexual health information and administering point of care HIV tests and STI screens in a welcoming and friendly environment.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for people like you!

To help us keep on providing quality HIV prevention, awareness and support services, plus sexual health information, to our communities in London.

Our busy and enthusiastic partnership offers community based HIV point-of-care testing via face to face outreach, along with condom distribution and additional testing services, in more venues across London than any other agency.

For many, a HIV test can be stressful and bring up many issues and uncertainties. So, as a gay men’s outreach and testing volunteer, we’ll need you to help us make the test and the environment a welcoming and friendly place.

You will get full training and supervision from our team and you’ll be involved in helping to answer issues raised, plus administering the point of care HIV test.

So even if you don’t have a background in our field, we still welcome your application.

If you’re up for a great and rewarding volunteering experience, then we’d like to hear from you!

To find out more, simply complete the contact form stating the role that interests you and we’ll get in touch.

Why volunteer with us?

Meet new people

Volunteering is also a good opportunity to meet new people that have the same interests and passion for health and wellbeing as you.

Gain experience

For many volunteering is a chance to gain experience for future work in health or community related jobs.

During your volunteering, you will be in touch with other volunteers and members of staff from a wide range of backgrounds and experience.

We hold a social event chosen by the team (bowling, go-kart, pub quiz, zoom quiz are the latest) every 2 months as a thank you to all our volunteers and to have fun together.

Enjoy yourself and gain satisfaction from doing something good!

As a peer led organisation, we encourage volunteering applications from people that want to give something back to their own communities.

If you would like to find out more about how to join our team, please get in touch with us.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Volunteer your time today and make a difference

What's it like to be a GMI volunteer

Volunteering with GMI has facilitated many great learning opportunities for me as well as the ability to impact our communities in the area of HIV prevention and sexual health promotion. Volunteering is fun and rewarding and I love being part of this great team. At GMI we work together and we support each other. Volunteering has never been so much fun!

Watch our 10 years anniversary video

This video is a great celebration of what we achieved in our first 10 years as a partnership. “Preventing HIV is of paramount importance to us. Supporting people affected by HIV is equally important.

Combating stigma is central to our vision. In each of these endeavours we will not be deterred, or diverted, and this report tells the story of our determination to listen and learn, to test and try, to challenge and to change.” (GMI Steering Group).

This video shows some of the opinions about volunteering with us from some of our current team and the venues we work in collaboration with.
